Following his return to the Bayerische Staatsoper for the Münchner Opernfestspiele, Piotr Beczala heads across the Alps to the Salzburger Festspiele to star in a new production of Gounod’s Faust. The internationally-acclaimed interpreter of Gounod’s soul-selling philosopher stars opposite Ildar Abdrazakov as Méphistophélès and Maria Agresta as Marguerite in a production helmed by Reinhard von der Thannen.

Alejo Pérez conducts the performances, which take place August 10, 14, 17, 20, 23, 26, and 29. Also featured are Alexey Markov as Valentin and Tara Erraught as Siébel, with Paolo Rumetz as Wagner and Marie-Ange Todorovitch as Marthe. Providing the chorus and orchestra are the Philharmonia Chor Wien and the Wiener Philharmoniker.

The opening night performance will be broadcast on ORF on the program Ö1 on August 13. An encore broadcast will take place in coproduction with ORF and Unitel on August 27 on 3sat and on Classica.
