The 2025/26 season at Madrid's Teatro Real drew to a close in grand style with the premiere of Verdi's Il Trovatore on 29 June 2026 and it was Piotr Beczała who set the tone for the entire run. Cast as Manrico in Francisco Negrín's 2019 production, now revived for a series of seventeen performances, the Polish tenor delivered an account of the role that left the Madrid public and the critical press in no doubt: in the great Verdi tenor repertoire, Beczała belongs to a category of his own.
