Polish opera triumphs in Vienna
It’s a great step forward in promoting Polish music abroad and it makes me very happy – wrote Piotr Beczala on social media after the premiere of Halka at the Theater an der Wien.
The 15th of December 2019 was undoubtedly an important date in the history of the polish opera. For the first time the famous “Halka” by Stanisław Moniuszko was staged abroad in such a prestigious opera theater as Theater an der Wien. Today is a big day! – wrote Piotr to his fans on the day of the premiere. – I am extremely happy that all those years of my efforts to make our Polish opera reach a wider international audience finally bear fruit today! It is a dream come true, great joy, pride and satisfaction to bring Halka to the stage of the Theater an der Wien and of course to be a part of it!
The Viennese audience gathered at the Theater an der Wien, including many distinguish guests, gave the cast a prolonged standing ovation after the performance. A great round of applause was given to Piotr Beczala (Jontek), Tomasz Konieczny (Janusz), Corinne Winters (Halka), conductor Łukasz Borowicz, the ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien and the Arnold Schoenberg Chor.
The production, directed by Mariusz Treliński and co-produced by Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera, turned out to be a great success and received a lot of enthusiastic reviews. What’s worth mentioning is the fact, that tickets for all six December performances sold out months before the premiere.
Polish opera lovers will have the opportunity to watch this production at the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in February 2020.
